Markets for Web Conferencing and Interactive Whiteboards for use in Education and Training approaching or exceeding $1 billion annually
New study from Wainhouse Research describes the booming market opportunities for use in classroom and training environments
12 January 2010, Duxbury, MA - Wainhouse Research has just published the results of its study of the real-time learning tools market and finds that the prospects for interactive whiteboards, web conferencing, and other platforms like Second Life are broad and deep, with few major short-term barriers in sight. WR concludes the educational and training portion of the interactive whiteboard market will total approximately $880 million USD in 2009, and will grow to almost $2 billion by the end of 2014. The educational and training portion of the web conferencing market will grow from approximately $680 million in 2009 to over $1 billion by the end of 2014. Interactive whiteboards will continue to be strongest in higher and primary/secondary education, while web conferencing will thrive in corporate training.
"Educators are taking advantage of stimulus funding in the US and major governmental initiatives elsewhere to acquire these tools to improve the learning experience, while corporate trainers are responding to imperatives for improved training efficiencies in business," according to study author Alan D. Greenberg. "New use cases for these tools are making them more compelling than ever before. Meanwhile, some of the vendors and service providers are doing a great job - better than we've seen in adjacent technology markets - of creating enabling factors (easy-to-use technologies, assessment and measurement tools, and user-enabling programs)."
The study, which is Volume 3 of The Distance Education and e-Learning Landscape series, includes forecast details, discussion of market dynamics, analysis of their vendors' respective depth of offerings and ability to execute, and profiles of major players like Adobe, Cisco WebEx, Citrix Online, eInstruction, Elluminate, IBM, Linden Lab (Second Life), mimio, PolyVision, Saba, Smart Technologies and Wimba. Other companies discussed but not profiled include eBeam, iLinc and Promethean. Finally, it predicts the direction web conferencing, interactive whiteboards, and MUVEs will take in coming years.
Volume One of this report series covers Course Management and Learning Management Systems, and Volume Two covers videoconferencing, streaming video, and lecture capture solutions.
