New Report Details Growth of Conferencing Infrastructure Market to over $1.2 Billion in 2005; Videoconferencing To Lead Transition to IP, Voice To Follow April 5, 2001, Brookline MA - Wainhouse Research today announced availability of its newest market research report, "Conferencing Markets and Strategies - 2001: Multimedia Networking Infrastructure," an in-depth study of the gateways, gatekeepers, and multipoint control units for audio and video calls that are the key components impacting the audio conferencing, videoconferencing and visual communications industries. The report details the growth of the overall industry, measured in factory revenues, from $375 million in 2000 to over $1.25 billion in 2005. The report concludes that despite the glamour of video-based conferencing services, the combination of audio conferencing and web conferencing products, with a 5-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30.7%, will outpace the video-centric conferencing products, predicted to grow at a 21.9% annual rate. Audio conferencing will be spurred by intense growth in the web conferencing market, with web server products forecast to grow at over 50% CAGR in terms of revenues and over 80% CAGR in terms of number of users. Video-based conferencing infrastructure products - MCUs, gateways, and gatekeepers - are forecast to grow from today's levels of $156 million to $419 million in 2005, with IP gatekeepers having the highest growth rate of any product category. The study also looks at the impending IP transition and concludes that while voice-over-IP (VoIP) is a hot topic today, that for multipoint conferencing products, the transition to IP will happen sooner in the video conferencing market than in the voice conferencing market, and that the transition will happen faster on the enterprise level than on the service provider level. Multimedia Networking Infrastructure provides a detailed five-year forecast for audio bridges, conferencing servers, embedded video MCUs, standalone video MCUs, video gateways, and IP gatekeepers by network type and product category. The 270 page report includes over 50 figures, an overview of the industry, technologies, and standards, and a review of over 25 key suppliers. Multimedia Networking Infrastructure is Volume 1 of Wainhouse Research's annual three part study. Volume 2 will cover conferencing endpoint products and technologies and Volume 3 will cover conferencing service providers. "Conferencing Markets and Strategies" is available on an annual subscription basis; individual reports are also for sale in both hardcopy and electronic versions.
