New Report Details Growth of Conferencing Infrastructure Market to over $1.45 Billion in 2006 Strong growth to be fueled by increased adoption of web conferencing, price reductions, improved ease of use, enterprise-focused solutions, and integrated service innovations. August 13, 2002, Brookline MA - Wainhouse Research today announced availability of its newest market research report, "Rich Media Conferencing - 2002: Multimedia Networking Infrastructure Products," an in-depth study of the bridges, conferencing servers, gateways, and gatekeepers that are the key components impacting the audio conferencing, videoconferencing, and web conferencing industries. The report details the growth of the overall industry by major market segment, measured in factory revenues, to over $1.45 billion in 2006. Also included in the report is an in-depth analysis of the market and technology trends affecting conferencing as well as a discussion of both the major and emerging vendors. The report concludes that despite the glamour of video-based conferencing services, the combination of audio conferencing and web conferencing products, with a 5-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 25%, will outpace the video-centric conferencing products. Audio conferencing will be spurred by intense growth in the web conferencing market, with web server product revenues forecast to grow at over 30% CAGR over the forecast period. The growth in web conferencing, the combination of PSTN voice conferencing with web-based access to presentation materials and software demos, is being driven by multiple factors, including falling end user prices, increased availability of both service-provider and enterprise-hosted solutions, the migration to ad-hoc availability, and the growing realization that web conferencing is an extremely efficient and cost-effective method for internal and external enterprise communications, particularly after the events of 9/11/01. Video-based conferencing infrastructure products - MCUs, gateways, and gatekeepers - are forecast to grow to a market size of over $400 million in 2006 with IP gatekeepers having the highest growth rate of any product category. While videoconferencing still has its niche of strong supporters, Wainhouse Research believes growth in videoconferencing will be slower than web conferencing technologies, some of which will include video-enabled services. The study also looks at the impending network and conferencing technology transitions and concludes that rich media conferences will blur from being distinct audio, web, and video conferences into one rich media conferencing entity that will accommodate endpoints with different audio, web, and video capabilities. Users will be able to begin a conference call from an audio-, video-, or web-centric device and expand ad-hoc to include the other media types. Multimedia Networking Infrastructure Products provides a detailed five-year forecast for audio bridges, conferencing servers, embedded video MCUs, standalone video MCUs, video gateways, and IP gatekeepers by network type and product category. The 169 page report includes over 50 figures, an overview of the industry, technologies, and standards, and a review of over 25 key suppliers. Multimedia Networking Infrastructure Products is Volume 1 of Wainhouse Research's annual three-part study covering the conferencing industry. Volume 2 will cover conferencing endpoint products and technologies and Volume 3 will cover conferencing service providers. "Rich Media Conferencing 2002" is available on an annual subscription basis; individual reports are also for sale in both hardcopy and electronic versions. Details, including an executive summary & table of contents, are available on the company's web site, www.wainhouse.com. Contact Andrew H. Nilssen, andyn@wainhouse.com |
