New Wainhouse Research Market Study Forecasts Traditional Dominance of Audio Conferencing to be Challenged by Increasing Popularity of Web and IP Video Conferencing Services
The Conferencing Service Provider (CSP) report forecasts that the overall conferencing services market will grow by 11.7% annually over the five year forecast period, reaching to $5.2 billion in 2007, as the advent of new services and strong per-minute growth rates are countered by price competition, the dominance of low-cost automated services, and a migration to IP infrastructure to further lower costs and prices. Underneath this umbrella figure however, some service segments will be growing much faster. Audio conferencing, which makes up the lion's share of the total conferencing market, is a mature application that is forecast to grow at just over 6.2% annually, while IP video network services are expected to come out of their embryonic stage and grow at an annual rate well over 100%. Web conferencing, which has become a mainstream application in North America, is forecast to make inroads in Europe and experience a worldwide growth rate of over 21%, despite a forecasted drop in average selling prices. All conferencing segments, including video and web, are expected to migrate to unattended, on-demand services that present both lower costs for the end users as well as higher margins for the service providers. "The conferencing service provider industry has gone through some ups and downs since 9/11 2001," comments Wainhouse Research's Managing Partner, Andrew W. Davis, "but we expect the situation to become much smoother by the middle-to-end of 2003. Right now we have an interesting dynamic of vendor consolidation on one hand and the emergence of a steady stream of new conferencing service providers with new and innovative technologies and business models on the other." Based on data collected by Wainhouse Research from several dozen vendors who shared proprietary revenue figures in order to help compile accurate industry statistics, the resulting 190-page report contains over 50 figures and includes a detailed five-year forecast for multiple conferencing services in three geographic regions. The report also includes an overview and analysis of the top 30 conferencing service provider companies that Wainhouse Research believes are either leaders in their respective markets or are candidates to become industry players because of their unique technology, innovative business strategy, or position with respect to the impending IP transition. Another 20 secondary service providers are also reviewed. The Services Market: Audio, Video, and Web Conferencing Services is Volume 3 of Wainhouse Research's Rich Media Conferencing series. Volume 1 covers Multimedia Networking Infrastructure Products and Vendors; Volume 2 covers the Video and Web Clients for Group and Personal Conferencing. "Rich Media Conferencing" is available on an annual subscription basis. Individual reports are also available separately for $3,495.
