In WRB V2 #26 I covered the Microsoft Windows Messenger for Windows XP announcement, and stated that SIP may just be the ticket to solve alot of technical network barriers and get real-time rich media conferencing going in a big way on the LAN.What do you think? In your article you mention the problem with H.323's LAN unfriendlyness caused by the usage of dynamic ports. I cannot see that SIP is a major improvement with respect to this. I aggree that it may be a little bit easier with SIP, but media streams used in association with SIP also uses dynamic ports. Do the basic problem remains. I belive that SIP and H.323 have a common challenge in solving this problem.IP: Logged |

Bluetooth looks a very interesting platform, with the ability to transmit Voice and data simultaneously over any web enabled product, Mobile, PDA, Fridgefreezer!!. Do you think that when PAN(Personal access Networks)are formed using Bluetooth or similar product, it will open up new avenues for conferencing.?

If anyone makes a H.323/SIP gateway product, my money's on RADVision.

[P]The IPFAN forum (IP firewalls and NAT) aims to provide a common solution to this common problem. See www.ipfan.org if interested.[/P]

Windows XP Messenger is going to rely on the roll-out of UPnP (Universal Plug-and-Play) to solve the NAT problem - see http://www.upnp.org This is going to get interesting ..?? AndyN
