What do you think of WebConferencing? Will it replace Videoconferencing? Generate more users? More revenue? Or is it yet another meeting tool? Have you used it?

Thanks for your coverage of this emerging, and quite broad market. One problem I see already is the old "who does what" problem. What is "webcasting"...

For example, in the Global Crossing piece you discuss GC as being the first with on-demand webcasting, yet this is not technically true. VideoScape, for example, has offered its customers on-demand webcasting and videomail services for 6 months, which include audio, video, slides, polls and other functionality. All without reservations - just dial up via H.320 and present.

But since VideoScape offers audio AND video, but NOT audio only webcasting, I guess you are correct in saying that GC is offering a first in the reservation-less audio to webcasting service...

So it becomes important to determine just what is "webcasting" and then who does what? I'd love to see (for my own use as well as everyone else) a comprehensive service/feature breakdown, perhaps as a special suppliment to the report.

Thanks again for the coverage!

I think that we service providers will need to lead our prospects and customers thru applications before this takes off. And VideoScape is as guilty as everyone else in not presenting the marketplace with case studies and success stories.

How about a best pratice section on the Wainhouse web, where the users discuss their applications and tirals/tribulations with one of your staff??

You bring up a good point because there is certainly much looseness in the terminology today. The service I described in the newsletter article basically has no video component today... it is powerpoint (over IP) with an audio accompaniment (over PSTN). Most of the services today that allow you to present slides over the Internet require advance registration.

Your services are unique, and I'll take your suggestion to include a services roundup seriously.
