In WRB V2 #26 I covered the Microsoft Windows Messenger for Windows XP announcement, and stated both my postive thoughts and concerns about its impact on desktop rich media conferencing.

Well the whole thing is dangerous, microshaft have a history of throwing massive resource at destroying competition, and it looks like they have turned their sights on the VC market now too. However there is potentially some good here, where the beast is again laughing at the H.323 develops stance of not pinning down their ports and applying for them from IANA.

There could be a few forks in the discussion here:
- will this thinnly vailed market sledge-hammer force the big endpoint guys into supporting SIP out of the box ?
- will the h.323 developers get serious with security issues (and stop trying to sell pricey firewalls and router upgrades) ?
