A socalled it-expert told me today that the future to come WinXP with video software build in, as well as future MS Exchange with serverbridging features, will be a major hit on the service industry. Since I am a new guy in this business, I am not sure. But it may call for considerations on our investments into more bridging equipment, if the "elephant" is soon to roll over - and kill most of its "mates". If you are a real VISUAL EXPERT, I will look forward to YOUR input on this subject! IP: Logged |

Not sure there will be much of an overlap, the desktop enviroment with XP and Messenger combined with Exchange will be an internal service, I dont see many companies willing to expose their exchange servers to outside networks. External bridging is primarily for room systems and bringing together disparte networks and protocols. I think the two will co exisit quite nicely.Jon IP: Logged |

Thanks jont!So you mean that Exchange and video is nice, as long as the communication in within the company over the same exchange server. Once in need for meetings with suppliers, clients - or family, you need to go outside, and then you either accept IM with possible lack of good quality, or you buy the feature from a briding SP? er not quiteI have not used exchange for video so cannot comment on its quality, but since its primary role is a mail server bolting on a video option does not fill me with confidence. That said I am sure its no worse than Microsoft Messenger (which is not what I would call business quality). Due to issues with security most companies dont allow Exchange to be visible outside the firewall except to recieve mail, I doubt they would allow the necessary ports open to the exchange server to allow video traffic. For business quality bridging you either need to buy yourself a dedicated piece of hardware such as the MCG series from polcyom or find a third party who can do this for you. Jon IP: Logged |

Ok.I see for sure your points. But I hope that a microsoft expert (who may happen not to like Microsoft) can come up with balanced information that actual goes against the first information that I have been given. I fully understand your points, and personally I am sure that there is also a Conference SP market - after the next many launches of new windows versions. jesper IP: Logged |
